so really, the rest of my weekend
the faint show was pretty amazing. black cat. not too crowded. good energy from the band. fun fun fun.
sunday, a different story. after going to two shows that weekend already, i was pretty pooped. after work, i just wanted to go to bed, but i dug deep and went to see wilco at recher theatre. so wilco played a pretty good show. predominantly the new stuff, which is pretty mellow. they didn't dive into the older material until the last 1/4 of the show [mainly, in the encores]. so that was kind of a bummer. i think the part that messed up the show was the theatre itself. if that place is not crowded, it's a pretty good venue b/c you can move around and actually see the band on the stage. last night's show was sold out. i spent a majority of my evening staring at the back of this really tall annoying guy's head. woo hoo. so that brought me down. oh, i almost forgot to mention that the opener, neil michael hagerty, sucked big time. some people should not be given the stage. i think he is one of them. you would think a big band like wilco could get a decent opener. guess not.
today [friday] was a pretty awful day at work. i got easily confused [which happens a lot] and got made fun of it over and over again. at one point i had enough. so with 4 hours left, i was stuck and work in a pretty bad mood.
originally i was gonna go home and do laundry w/some moping time. but what good does that do? none. so i went with some co-workers to the neil halstead show at the metro cafe. we left before he even got on. a very good thing, considering i saw someone there that i never want to run into again.
so next we drove to baltimore to see the super furry animals at the ottobar. let me just say one thing. that show rocked. they were really good. i was very impressed. [note: not impressed enough to like baltimore--that place is still a shiznaki hole].
i remember when coreytalked about billy corgan's new band zwan. apparently they have such a huge following already. check out zwanphoria. it's really out of control. has anybody heard any of their stuff yet?
4. What show do you think should have been cancelled by now? ally mcbeal. oh wait, it just got cancelled.
5. What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? obviously the osbournes. i don't know what i'd do if it wasn't on again. and undeclared b/c i'll hopefully have that night off to watch it. apatow is the king.
stupid sport utes (a.k.a. suv's). driving like mad with no regard for others. always on your cell phones listening to kenny g. pay attention to traffic signals, you almost injured laze. i think everyone with a SUV should move to maryland and make it "the SUV/drive like an a-hole state". wouldn't that make sense? until then, here is a luscious message for all those who drive those big, unnecessary gas guzzling weapons: SHARE THE (expletive) ROAD!
on a lighter note:
my co-worker keeps telling me about yuan fu restaurant. vegetarian kung pao "shrimp". i have to try it out.
[addition to previous apartment cons list: a/c not turned on for building yet]
need a ghettoway
woah, it got warm in a hurry. so it's mid-april and i still need to find a place for june. my roommate greg and i have to give a 30-day notice before we move, so it's creepin' around the corner. right now i'm not doing an amazing job finding a place, and greg really isn't motivated to move. here are the pros/cons of the ghettojoint:
close to metro
close to d.c.
walking distance to work
cheap (costs less than $1100 for a 2-br)
smells like a dead rat
everything breaks (kitchen faucet leaky, non-existent shower pressure, the floors are unraveling, weird drafts through the apartment)
landlord is too slow at fix anything
landlord is crazy
landlord gets on my nerves
it's on the side of the building that doesn't get too much sunlight
parking is a pain---if you get home past 11, you are screwed---there is nothing.
i've lived there for 1 1/2 years and i've had enough. i need to move!

brit pop pimpin'
last night/early this morning i had a blast at the black cat. it was mousetrap: brit pop dance night. i cut a rug on the upstairs level for about 3 hours. pretty fun. the smiths, blur, pulp, and other brit delights. downstairs someone was having a pimp party. damn, why wasn't i invited? you ain't gotta be knockin'.

kush meer in toches
my friend jenna keeps teaching me yiddish, and i completely love it. for instance, she said it was a shame i had an unpleasant experience with a faccocta girl this past week.
1. What is your favorite restaurant and why? around here---sunflower. it's pretty damn good, healthy food. the "fried chicken"/general tso's surprise combo is my fave.
2. What fast food restaurant are you partial to? subway.
3. What are your standards and rules for tipping? 20% or more--everytime. i don't understand how some people can only tip 5%. that's ridiculous.
4. Do you usually order an appetizer and/or dessert? it depends how hungry i am. if i'm really hungry before or after the entree i get an appetizer or dessert.
5. What do you usually order to drink at a restaurant? it used to be coke. but i'm going back to water or iced tea as my choice.

taken on the road (revisited)
remember the american mile marker photo project by matthew frondorf. well, i decided to check it today and 1) he made it (which is good since it has been three months) and 2) there are some really cool pics.
sometimes days feel longer than 24 hours. or they merge together with another day to feel forever. take yesterday. i went to work from 9:00-4:00, then was in class from 4:30-10:00. after class, i drove to my sister's house to mat/mount/and frame some pictures. the annual student show is coming up, and each student submits four works (that may or may not be selected for the show). my teacher's enthusiasm for the ones i submitted seems promising. i'll keep everyone posted. but i stayed up until 3 a.m. getting everything done. then today i woke up at 9:30, drove to penn camera, then to school to turn everything in. then from 11-12:30, i matted some more. then back at work at 2:30.
today was my roommate's birthday. we went to see the kids in the hall. it was tremendously funny. very raunchy. gosh, they should come out with a kids in the hall dvd collection. i would buy it in a heartbeat.
after the philly trip, the rest of my weekend should have been restful. but it wasn't. after work on saturday, i had to deliver some packages to other d.c. stores that the delivery man forgot. i completed the task in about 20 minutes, but then i hit some traffic. on the way down constitution i came to a green light and no one was moving. the people in the lane perpendicular seemed to be running a red light. so i was like, funk dat, i'm going. so i almost hit someone. then, i proceeded to drive past all these fools. after a couple of minutes i look in my rearview mirror and see a cop blocking traffic. first thought: i almost crashed into a funeral procession. second thought: oh crap. later on in the evening i went bowling with corey and kristy. [we had fun by the way, but the place was waaay ghetto]. i explained to them what had happened and they said, "yeah, that was the cherry blossom parade". i almost crashed into the cherry blossom parade.
sunday i had to work. then go to inventory. then meet friends for coffee/tea/other tasty beverage.
1. What are the first things that you do in the morning to start your day? tell my cat to pipe down, "i'm getting your food...sheesh". take shower. figure out which job i'm supposed to go to. head in that direction.
2. What are the last things that you do at night before going to bed? hope for a less stressful day. watch t.v. [when i should be reading a book]
3. What daily routine have you recently added to your day? working on mix tapes. i owe a lot of people mix tapes. so i'm working on it on a daily basis. plus, a lot of birthdays are coming up.
4. What routine do you wish you get rid of? watching t.v. as much as i do. it's pretty ridiculous. some of it is entertainment, some mindless entertainment, and some just mindless. i should read as much from my "you bought me months ago" book pile.
5. What's the one thing that makes you feel like something is missing if you don't do it some point within your day? getting on the internet. if i do it at work, i get into trouble. there are risks and frankly i'll take the chance. i love it too much.
the rest of the weekend: cosmic bowling, working on resume, inventory at work.
i went to richmond today and ate a yummy portabella mushroom sandwich w/fries at strawberry street cafe. so good. then i went to ikea where i bumped into thornco and john. they helped me select a desk. i am SO indecisive. but they are good friends. they helped me out.
on the blog again
sorry for my lack of blog entries. i've been having trouble accessing my page through blogger.
well, my photography class is going better. i've come to a conclusion though. i definitely need to improve technically. for instance, out of 36 pictures on my contact sheet only 1/2 come out. but my teacher says i'm ace at developing the print. so if i could only get the first part right i'd be sitting pretty.
my portfolio (bowling) is going better. i actually got some good pics yesterday at bowl america. there weren't too many people there at 4 p.m. (as expected) so i had to make do with what was there. this portfolio is helping me improve my bowling scores (186, 166, 156, 122-damn i was off) too. it's still not where i want it to be but it's good enough. hopefully i can get my own bowling ball soon. i get a little tired trying to find a ball that fits my fingers AND doesn't weigh 16 lbs.
tomorrow i'm going to richmond for lunch to celebrate allison's birthday. happy birthday friend. then i'll probably swing by ikea to buy a new benno cd shelf. desperately in need of one. tripping over cd's on the floor has gotten old real fast. also, i'm looking for a good desk. the one i have now looks pretty puny underneath my computer.
what else? i'm going to philly on friday w/some co-workers to see the clinic show. the kinsbury manx is opening. it should be fun. only costs $14 total. maybe i'll get to hang out with boyz II men, abc, bbd--[you know] the east coast family.
other than that, i'm a possible candidate for this record buying position. seems pretty cool. the main downside is that it is in maryland...which gives me the chills already. time to weigh my options.
