Bad with Names, Good with the Ladies

  pimpin' you thoughts [summer 2003]

lunes, diciembre 31, 2001

i hope everyone has fun tonight. or at least do something you want to do. i'll probably just watch movies with friends or something like that. who knows. it always seems like new years is last minute, then i go to a party or a bar, and then it's 3-2-1-new year...then o.k. i'm tired. time to go home. i think i'm showing my age right now. oh well. so i think my new year's resolution for all new year's to come is to just wing it.

happy birthday sis.

today is my sister's birthday. although it comes on a bad day for birthday's because most people are planning for the new year's, i think it's kind of cool. you have a party for your birthday and when it's done, it's the new year. woo hoo. we went to go see the royal tenenbaums. now we are going to eat thai food. life is good.

i'm so confused i can't even take it.

on saturday i went to dave&busters with corey, kristy, and gretchen. we had a fun time. esp. playing daytona 500 where the seat would jiggle back and forth and it made you be part of the game. although i wouldn't spend every saturday or everyday day for that matter at that place like most people, it was a good time. i made everyone late when i missed the egoincXpress. d'oh! i got confused. a dingleberry am i.

in closing (the year)

either way, make sure you all have fun. make a resolution or too. keep it or lose it if you want. it's all up to yuse. have a happy and safe new year! see you in 2002.

my plans for the rest of the year

christmas was a good time with the family. good feast. i hooked up the tofurkey yet again. scrumptious. then i took a lot of pictures of the family goofin' around. the fam hooked me up with some amazing gifts. i'm very lucky. my sister gave me equipment (chemicals, thermometer, reels) for developing film. my parents got me fast times at ridgemont high and dazed & confused on dvd. and my bro-in-law hooked me up with a portable mp3-cd player. he's the best, and all i gave him was a cookbook. d'oh!

the last couple of days i've been at work. dealing with customers. getting all the returns with the good or lame excuses that come with them. feels like an extra present when the customer is rude too. i always want to say, "but i didn't get you anything." actually, it's been pretty slow, so i just end up listening to whichever cd strikes my fancy.

i have the next two days off, then i work a double (9 a.m.-8:30 p.m.) at the bookstore. no big deal. so tomorrow i'm gonna catch wes anderson's new flick the royal tennenbaums. should be good. the soundtrack is fun. i also want to see amelie, in the bedroom, not another teen movie, and the shipping news at some point.

no new years plans yet. i agree with corey. it should be local, cheap, and involve no bars. although dressing up like pirates, taking over someone's ship, and making jackasses walk the plank sounds pretty temptin'. aaahhrrr matey!!!!!

if you need a pirate name try here...mine (yawn) is:

Captain Jack Flint

"Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!"

more for moore

congratulations to stephen on his new jobby job.

merry christmas, my luscious peeps

hope everyone has a wonderful time with their loved ones today. drink some nog. relax. smile.

don't forget to check out the catchdubs xmas for some good yuletide songs

i had to work at the bookstore all weekend and it was really slow. not a lot of people in there at all. the good thing about working at a bookstore is you can play whatever music you want as long as it's not offensive....but then x-mas rolls around and it's x-mas music 24/7. i got into the spirit for the first couple of days, but when the TRL poo-poo doo-doo christmas album hit the speakers, i grew weary very quickly. luckily, i was the asst. manager on shift yesterday and i played sigur ros, manu chao, and some etta james. nothing too offensive or christmasy. don't worry, when push comes to shove i'll probably break loose the sinatra christmas album tomorrow. no christmas is complete without franky. i think i'm losing it.

shop til you drop?

gameplan for people that still need to get their shop on this weekend:

1) be patient.
the sellers out there are just as stressed about the transaction b/c everything is intense.

2) be sure to have a second option for a gift.
the store might be sold out of that particular gift you are buying. you are buying the gift last minute. and no, they didn't put it on hold with a big sign that says "not for sale, reserved for [insert your name]."

3) drive carefully.
be wary of the others on the road. don't loose your patience. i know. i deal with maryland drivers almost everyday. yuck!

4) don't forget, you can always get them a gift that is unique.
you can even break out your creative stylings and make one.

5) after the day of stress, get your dance on with rene [via: mlyttle]

a beautiful day

so it's official. waking up early allows you to get a lot of errands done. i woke up at 7:30 a.m. and went to a doctor's appt., the barber, purchased a birthday present & card, met thornco for coffee, then my parents for lunch all before 1 p.m. does that make me want to wake up at 7:30 again or even like it? no chance.

two-part question of the day: have you ever gone to the barbers/hairdressers and noticed how their own haircuts aren't that great? does that make sense?

today i saw the movie a beautiful mind. pretty good. i went into the theatre knowing little about the film, and that made it a lot better. very interesting movie. people even clapped at the end.

it's about 11:30 p.m. on a thursday night. i've already gone to work and done my christmas shopping. everything has gone well. then i get online and this is what i find: my friend/ex-coworker is still at work. she has probably done a shift of 14+ hours today (8 a.m.-11:30 p.m and counting). her two other co-workers only work 8 hours. you can't make them work a second longer. when the 8-hr mark hits, they are out the door. it's truly unfair. and my former boss, the biggest f-ing a-hole at a-o-hell, does nothing. typical. it's a shame too b/c my friend is one of the most dedicated, hard workers i've ever been around and she is the one who has to clean everything up. the other two depend on her to fix their mistakes. that my friends is the inside of the corporate world. and what else do you deal with when you are there? possible layoffs. someday i wish that my friend leaves that dastardy cesspool b/c she deserves a company that appreciates all she has done.

on a happier note: congrats to stephen for his great grades. good job homes.

some days you just can't sleep well. i woke up this morning at 5 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep. probably my addiction to coke. but at least it gives me a chance to post something now so i won't get into trouble at work later.

last night i saw the sissy | space | sex show at the black cat. they did a really good job. seem to be working well/having fun together on stage. plus there was a good size crowd for a backstage show. i double-dosed with pictures (using a regular manual and a digital). don't worry in february i'll buy from laze realtors (a.k.a. RYAN) and will be able to post pictures galore.

anyway, this was my first experience at the new black cat and i actually like the place so far. i've only seen half, the red room, which was a highlight of the old club. the other, cage-esque upper part of the new club, is still yet to be seen. i'm scared. hold me.

wilco news:

according to their website, wilco has signed on with nonesuch records...their new album, yankee hotel foxtrot, will come out in april 2002. the wilco alt.countrymentary, i'm trying to break your heart, will be released sometime soon too.

a lyttle props

as if she didn't need more praise for her amazing work, melissa has done it again with her kids in chaos piece, one of the 3 photo essays off of her aphotoaday website. the other two are:

ben lowy's residents of the mark twain hotel
chip litherland's jesus on broadway

special props:

occassionally you just have to say, there are sincerely nice people out there. recently i have been interested in applying to RIT, and have gotten enormous help from two photo/blog peeps, the aforementioned melissa and erin. and for that i thank you both.

blog down, potlucked and more

thanks to blogger being down all sunday i didn't get a chance to give my thoughts from yesterday. so here they are.

on saturday i had a potluck christmas dinner for my friends. lots of great food and friends all under one roof. check out corey's pictures of the event.

oh, in case by some miraculous occurrence you haven't heard of the great music event this evening, here is the info:

sissy | space | sex
9:00 p.m.
at the black cat, washington d.c.

i would also like to point out that if this class was taught at my college, i would have never left. actually i would have left anyway b/c i didn't like school that much, but at least i would have taken one more class.

in the news: florida poodle registered to vote. their system is crappy. there is proof.

welcome home, roxy shoplifter

winona ryder caught shoplifting at saks fifth avenue store. huh? couldn't she just buy the whole store. welcome to winona fifth avenue, how may i help you?

the good, the bad, and the thank goodness i'm free

today is a very good day...mixed with the right amount of good and bad.

good: school is over for three weeks. i'm free. last night, i had to show the class my photography portfolio (20 prints) last night. they seemed relatively impressed.
bad: there is nothing bad about having a break.

bad: woke up at 8:30 this morning. i know most of you wake up earlier than that anyway, but i'm not a morning person. period.
good: i saw lord of the rings, in advance through work, at the mazza gallerie movie theatre. you will have to check for my movie review. [hint: i liked it]

bad: had my physical today. i hate going to the doctor.
good: clean bill of health.

one class to go and i'm free. woo hoo.

proof positive

dee snyder = christina aguilera, now there is proof. [via: Scott]

today on the way to work i saw a hearse in front of me. the name on the back window-- farrar. just made me think of the singer. how fitting. his career has been on life-support lately.

some good news for me. i finished my last final last night. now i just have my photography project to finish (as in mount, which is a breeze) by thursday.

this past weekend i went to the new ikea (which is 2 floors-you could fit three of the last ikea in this joint). the best part is there is a lot of parking and a lot of cashiers working. so the lines are never too awful that you want to vomit. my purchasing goal: to buy an expedit, a huge shelving unit. i have a problem with my apartment b/c there is this really long wall that is a pain to decorate. it's not very feng shui compatible. anyhoo, the expedit is enormous, so it didn't have a chance in heck to fit into my car. so my friends john & stephanie offered to get it for me yesterday. my friends are nice. now i have an expedit. all i have to do now is put the darn thing together.

let's go out to the movies

grab a seat, eat some popcorn, bring a friend, and sit back and enjoy ADDmovies (the movie review center, 20 words or less). opening over the internet today. primary contributors: me, laze, litclique, refreshingly rob, and scott. the top g of designs, corey, sure made it look purty.

movin' on up

last night i went to a party with john, stephanie, beta, and jared at my friend lena's swanky new pad in d.c. i swear everytime i see an apartment better than mine (which isn't saying much), i feel a deep desire to move. plus, it's really noisy where i live and something seems to always break. maybe i should keep my eyes and ears open for bigger and better places.

i'd also like to state now that i think it's ridiculous people are trying to put a building named after ronald reagan in each state. gross gross gross.

i'm a mona freakin' lisa

If I were a work of art, I would be Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.

I am extremely popular and widely known. Although unassuming and unpretentious, my enigmatic smile has charmed millions. I am a mystery, able to be appreciated from afar, but ultimately unknowable and thus intriguing.

Which work of art would you be? The Art Test

i'm #1

checked out who's coming to my website. it seems that i was #1 in a google search for ladies vs. ladies having sex and #5 for the freaky and sad quiz stories using your imagination can freak you out search. i guess i'm speaking to the people, covering all subjects. good to know.

so my boss isn't here and that makes today a great day. not because i hate my boss, but because i have some time to mess around with my blog and check e-mails. by the way, here is an update on my photography life. i'm going to apply to RIT (and other schools) as a transfer. that will be after next semester which will allow me time to learn more skills as well as prepare all the applications (including the teacher recommendations). at least i know i have something to look forward to in 2002.

on monday, george harrison's ashes were spread along the ganges river. seems fitting.

check out melissa's blog, she has put up very interesting posts about last meals as well as her views' on the hustle & bustle of today's world.

kim has redone her blog. looks good. scott is riding around town looking for a job. good luck.

for the next two weeks i'll be knee deep in school work. my finals are this week and next. so the blogs might come here and there. it will keep you on your toes.

i really can't wait for christmas. mostly for the fact that i'll be in a giving mood. i'm gonna give myself time to sleep and relax. that's the best present anyone could give me. thanks me. honestly though, it will be great to spread some holiday cheer and hang out with friends and family for more than five seconds.

hope everyone is doing well out there.

another sad day

bus bomb kill 15 people in haifa just 12 hours after three terrorist attacks in jerusalem
